WorldSkills 2013 in Leipzig

In the 20 years since the reunification of Germany, this region has seen development and growth unparalleled in Europe. Leipzig and Saxony have long been a hub of continental trade in the centre of Europe. A bridge between North and South and between East and West – and an excellent ‘Gateway to the East’ for WorldSkills International and for further enhancing the WorldSkills image and promoting its mission worldwide.

The region is host to numerous famous companies and their factories – including Porsche, BMW, the DHL European Logistics Hub, as well as numerous energy and environmental technology companies.

A city of big names
Leipzig is where Goethe studied and where Bach was choirmaster and organist in the famous St. Thomas’s Church, and where, as musical director, he shaped the Gewandhaus Orchestra. This is where Mendelssohn founded his music academy and wrote his most famous work, ‘Elias’. It is also where Richard Wagner was born and where Angela Merkel, first female Chancellor of Germany, studied physics.

A city makes history
Leipzig and the famous St. Nicholas were at the centre of the peaceful revolution in the former German Democratic Republic that led to the fall of the wall and the reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990. Today, more than ever, “boomtown” Leipzig is world-famous as a trade fair centre, book publishing centre, and city of culture. It is a city that has everything – whether graphic arts, music, literature, historical buildings and monuments – or hotels and restaurants for every budget.

An entire city embraces WorldSkills and inspires the world
Leipzig is a leading international exhibition and trade fair venue. It is said jokingly that Leipzig is the only trade fair centre in the world where events involve the whole city. And it’s true. Major events at the Leipziger Messe are inevitably the Talk of the Town, ensuring keen public interest and extensive media coverage.

Leipzig is an attractive world-famous city, with a compact layout and excellent infrastructure. TThese superb conditions ensure that WorldSkills 2013 will generate enormous interest and favourable media coverage far beyond the borders of Germany.

Right size, right price
Leipzig is the optimum size for hosting WorldSkills: Big enough to have all the facilities - and just the right size to give WorldSkills and the Competition its undivided attention. WorldSkills City!

Compared to the rest of Europe, living costs are unbeatably low - a major benefit for those attending.

WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 will deliver:

A superb WorldSkills Competition in a city of great charisma in the heart of Europe
